HP Officejet 4500 berkompetisi dengan Canon Pixma MX340, menawarkan konektor jaringan (Ethernet) yang tidak dimiliki oleh Canon MX340.

HP Officejet 4500 dapat mencetak, scan, copy dan fax melalui jaringan, dan bekerja sebagai mesin fotokopi atau mesin faks. Printer ini juga dapat memindai ke e-mail dengan mudah, menggunakan program e-mail pada PC Anda untuk membuat pesan dan menambahkan hasil scan dokumen sebagai lampiran. Dilengkapi 20-halaman dokumen feeder otomatis (ADF) untuk menangani multi-halaman serta kertas ukuran legal, yang terlalu besar untuk di muat di atas flatbed scannernya.

Kapasitas Baki kertas HP Officejet 4500 hanya mampu menampung 100 lembar dan terlihat agak sedikit jika Anda berpikir untuk menggunakan printer ini berbagi dengan orang lain di dalam ruang lingkup kantor kecil. Cara pemasangan HP Officejet 4500 ini cukup sederhana, hubungkan kabel USB ke PC. Kemudian masukkan kertas, pasang dua kartrid tinta, tinta hitam dan warna, dan jalankan program setup otomatis dari CD Driver yang di sertakan dalam paket.

Uji coba menggunakan OS: Windows Vista, di dalam CD dilengkapi driver untuk Win Vista 64-bit, Windows 7 32 dan 64-bit, dan Win XP, ditambah driver untuk Mac OS X 10.4. x melalui 10,6. Selain itu, Anda dapat men-download driver untuk Windows 2003 dan Linux dari situs Web HP support.
